What does AI transformation look like when it is built around your organisation's history and people, instead of a generic race for speed?

Most efforts start with tools, copilots and automation, and mistake faster cycles for value. The result is a pile of pilots nobody adopted, and a lot of people quietly wondering what happened to the work they were good at.

The alternative premise is less exciting and considerably harder: the goal is not to move fast(er); it is to build something that fits, lasts, and makes an organisation better at what it already does well. That starts by refusing the "AI first, AI everything" instinct, and asking at every step how a new tool connects to the expertise already in the building.

Paulo will show what that looked like in practice at IKEA: what got built, what got killed, and how to tell the difference early.

Global Innovation & Technology Manager

Paulo spent the past few years leading emerging technology at IKEA, leading projects across Ingka and Inter IKEA, most recently as Global Innovation & Technology Manager in Group Strategy, Development & Innovation and before that as Global Emerging Technology Design Leader in Group Digital.

Twenty-five years in, his background spans design, engineering, data, and product, compounding a solid foundation for business value creation at scale. He has spent most of that time refusing to let strategy and delivery live in two different heads.

At IKEA, he built AI-enabled innovation capabilities to transform opportunity-to-deployment from 18 months to 18 weeks. Not by replacing 80 years of knowledge and craft, but by betting on it. He will tell you, before anyone asks, that AI is not a differentiator.
