What is the role of designers in a future that doesn't need more things?
For decades, designers have been defined by the output of their work. Pixel-perfect interfaces, innovative user flows, striking visual systems. These roles shaped industries and brought beauty and clarity into people's lives. Yet as we find ourselves in the middle of climate collapse, inequality, and democratic erosion, they now feel too narrow. In many cases, they are complicit in the very problems we claim to solve.
This workshop introduces ten new design archetypes for a world that needs fewer things and more meaning. Together, we'll examine the roles they currently hold, discover archetypes that offer a different way forward, and learn ways they can embody different responses for different contexts.
Designers leave with a clearer sense of who they are becoming and practical responses they can embody starting now.
What to expect
A hands-on session combining short individual reflection, small group dialogue, and archetype-based practice. No materials needed — just show up ready to think and share.

Ida is a designer, storyteller, and dreamer passionate about using design and storytelling in service of human and planetary flourishing.
In her current role as a Freelance Social Impact Designer, Ida helps socially-minded organizations, companies, and individuals challenge systems, imagine sustainable futures, and create inclusive and equity-centered tools, environments, and narratives.
In 2024 she founded DesignShifts.org, a critical design lab and learning platform for systemic transition.
Over the past fifteen years Ida worked across climate justice, education, healthcare, and social transformation with organizations including IDEO, the UNDP, and Appleseed Impact.
