Generative AI is fundamentally reshaping the way we work. New forms of creation and collaboration are emerging, and what once seemed utopian now feels within reach. Yet, as future designer Monika Bielskyte noted: “Every historic Utopia was someone’s Dystopia.”
The real cost of ChatGPT isn’t $2 – it’s borne by many, now and in the future. CO₂ emissions, excessive water use, ethical concerns, bias, privacy risks, and copyright issues are all part of the picture. And what do we truly get in return?
While generative AI can deliver value, outputs are often mediocre, raising not only sustainability concerns but also real business risks.

In this breakout session, you’ll explore both the potential downsides and positive outcomes of generative AI.
The practical focus will be on applying the Responsible AI Canvas, a framework designed to assess AI use cases by identifying risks, weighing them against expected benefits, and providing a clear basis for decision-making.
Responsible AI is not about rejecting it in general – it is a decision we make every time we use or not use it.

SUX - The Sustainable UX Network
Thorsten is a UX Evangelist and Digital Generalist based out of Hamburg, Germany. For more than 15 years he works in the field of UX, Service Design and Strategy Consulting, supporting clients to create meaningful products or build up, lead and coach UX and Product Teams following the idea of empathic leadership.
In 2020 he quit his job as Director UX of an international Digital Agency to focus on some of the major issues we face as human beings and society. Since then he works as a Strategic UX Consultant, especially facilitating Sustainability and Sustainable UX.
At the beginning of 2021 Thorsten started the initiative „SUX – the Sustainable UX Playbook“ with an international group of designers, to push Sustainable UX further for and with the digital creative community.
