As designers, we often talk about "moving the needle" – but are we sure it's moving in the right direction? In this talk, Stan invites us to rethink what sustainable UX really means, challenging the assumptions behind impact in design.
Drawing from his work at Big Studio, Stan introduces a practical framework for designing systemic change by sharing three unique case studies: Tomorrow (shaping behaviour and awareness), Lemonade (aligning incentives and transparency), and Landbanking (creating infrastructure and business value). With real-world examples and reflective questions, he shows how design – regardless of role or environment – can shift toward more sustainable and conscious practices.
From embedding “positive friction” in commercial UX to reimagining our role in the systems we shape, this talk is both a provocation and a playbook for those who want to do more than just ship features – and start designing for positive change.
