This is a
Breakout Session
Location
Breakout room 7 (bar)
Design shapes much of our reality and has a profound impact on our lives. Yet, very few get to participate in design processes. Those most impacted by design decisions — whether in visual culture, community planning, or political and economic systems — often have the least influence on how those decisions are made.
This breakout session, hosted by representatives from Design Justice Network Munich, the local chapter of the global Design Justice Network, invites participants to rethink design processes with a focus on centering people who are typically excluded from them. Together, we will explore the Design Justice Network's Principles as a framework to challenge traditional design paradigms. Participants will critically examine systems that exploit both nature and human experience through oppression and domination, while collaboratively exploring ways to shift these practices. By doing so, we will collectively envision and build worlds that are safer, more just, accessible, and sustainable for everyone.
This session is for those eager to understand, adopt, and embody design principles that shift power, challenge systems, and sustain, heal, and empower our communities. Rooted in a sense of abundance, possibility, and joy, the session will inspire critical change through connection, care, and community-building.
Join us in reimagining the role of design and the ways it can serve as a force for collective empowerment.
