For the past couple decades, interaction designers have been focused on the infamous GUI – mapping hero flows, defining navigation models, and selecting the best components to increase conversion. But with the rise of large language models, we’re now in the middle of a paradigm shift from command-based interaction (i.e., buttons) to intent-based interaction (ie, conversational AI). What does it mean for our role as designers when the UI is reduced to a few chat bubbles and an AI agent is the one helping users accomplish their task?
In this talk, Kim will dive deep into what she’s learned from designing an AI chat bot. She’ll share best practices for approaching this type of work, and the new skills interaction designers will need as their role evolves from a designer of interfaces to an orchestrator of conversations.
