An Ethical Framework for Planetary-Centric Design

In a world where technology shapes our future outcomes, ethical design is not just a choice; it's an imperative. This workshop offers a practical tool for designers, rooted in principles from Permaculture. It is a compass to navigate the complex interplay of creativity, innovation, economic viability, and social and environmental responsibility.

We are shifting the focus from user-centric to a broader, holistic, planet-centred approach. In this workshop, participants will learn to apply our Ethical Framework for Planetary-Centric Design to evaluate designs and understand their impact on our society, environment, and economy.

What to expect?

This tool equips you to forecast the potential effects of design choices and to ensure decisions are made with a clear picture for a healthier society, planet, and economy. The session will be hands-on, so be prepared to use work in groups and assess a design with the framework.

Take-aways

  • Impact of design on our planet. New paradigm: planetary-centric design. Ethical frameworks: Virtue Ethics, Deontology, Utilitarianism.
  • Principles of permaculture applied to product design. New way of doing business based on “planet, people and profit” impact.
  • Ethical Framework. Practical tool for designers to navigate the complex interplay of creativity, innovation, economic viability, and social and environmental responsibility. Tool to assess a project according to seven different principles and three different aspects (planet, people, profit).
