Not your usual platform: Prototyping for a wood harvester

Lightning Talk:

Looking towards a near future of semi-autonomous forestry vehicles, the challenge was to design an interface to assist 'Forwarder' vehicle operators with the task of locating and collecting felled timber. This was achieved through a variety of approximations, for example a 'wizard-of-oz' prototype to demonstrate the changing head-up display as the operator moves through the forest, interactive card models or the UI and the space within the vehicle's cabin. Dynamic behavior of the UI was simulated with post-its, overlays and removable paper elements.

About Lauren

Lauren is an interaction design master's student at the Umeå Institute of Design in Sweden. Originally from the UK, She's found herself progressively leaving a little trail of projects around Europe – right now this leads to Munich where she currently interns at IDEO and Designit.

Laurens strengths lie in design research, concept development, and in making the ambiguous tangible – having studied for her undergraduate degree in Product Design she has a 'prototype-y' approach, and often finds herself exploring the balance between physical and digital interfaces.
