Bio
Lucia has over 10 years experience in Design and Human-Computer Interaction, across research and design practice, industry and academia.
Since 2010 she has been working at Google in Zurich, as UX designer for Emerging Markets.
Trained as industrial designer in Milan, Italy, she worked in brand communication for the Turin Winter Olympic Games, as HCI researcher and UI designer at the Fraunhofer Institute in Sankt Augustin, Germany, as research assistant at the LMU University of Munich, where she did her PhD, as senior researcher and interaction designer at Vodafone R&D.
Lucia is very passionate about people and how design - in its eclectic forms - can change the world.

Designing technologies for the next billion people: challenges and opportunities
Who are the next billion Internet users? And what can we learn from design and research practice in this area?
In this talk I'll present an overview of some of the challenges and opportunities for designing technology for Emerging Markets, building on my experience in this area as UX designer at Google. In particular I'll focus on designing mobile payments in Kenya and in the Philippines, explaining the potential for technology to improve peoples lifes in these regions.
